An overwhelming show of support for the 2016/17 Cityzens Giving campaign saw 392,932 life-changing votes cast by City Football Group fans around the world.
For the third successive year, we asked supporters to make a difference to communities across the globe and were delighted by the staggering number of people who backed the campaign.
Unified in a desire to positively impact the lives of young people in cities around the world, the entire City Football Group family – including players, partners and most importantly, fans of New York City, Manchester City, and Melbourne City – pledged their support to Cityzens Giving.
This year’s campaign, which has grown year on year, once again distributed $500,000 donated by City Football Group and its partners to six projects, run by young people for young people using the power of soccer to tackle tough social problems affecting their community.
We can now reveal that a new addition for 2016/17, Mexico City’s Futbol Matters, gained the most votes and will receive more than $123,000. As a result of the funding, Young Leaders will create safe spaces in areas of the city affected by violence where children will be able to connect, play soccer and learn valuable life skills.
Similarly, your support will also help Young Leaders in five other cities – New York City, Beijing, Manchester, Melbourne and Bandung in Indonesia – to deliver their inspiring, soccer-based community work.
Now in its third year, the Cityzens Giving campaign has seen City Football Group and its partners commit more than $1.9million.
In addition to this year’s initiatives, we continue to fund projects in São Paulo, Cape Coast in Ghana, Kolkata, Cape Town, Barranquilla and Kuala Lumpur.
This wouldn’t be possible without the brilliant efforts of our fans and we would like to thank everyone who has participated over the past three years for their support.
