NYCFC defender Maxime Chanot’s big week just got a little bigger.
The center back is in the EA SPORTS FUT Team of the Week following his massive performance against the Philadelphia Union, a match in which he scored the late equalizer on a thunderous near-post header.
This is Chanot’s first-ever appearance in the FUT Team of the Week, and he earned it in the same week as his first-ever goal for NYCFC. Of course, he’s much better known for preventing goals than he is for putting them back in the net.
Chanot has been massive this year, helping NYCFC to the 4th-best goal differential in Major League Soccer. The squad are also on track to have the best defensive campaign in NYCFC history, allowing just 19 goals through 15 matches.
His defensive partnership with winter signing Alexander Callens has paid dividends for the team, and Chanot’s individual performances have highlighted his comfort level. He’s completed an impressive 89% of his passes this season, won 68% of the duels he’s been involved in, and notched 81 clearances.
That level of performance is why Chanot is a key part of the Luxembourg national team, who are set to face the Netherlands this Friday in a World Cup Qualifying match.
Chanot is the second NYCFC player to be named in the FUT Team of the Week this season, after David Villa snagged a spot in week 26’s squad thanks to his performance against DC United on March 12th.
