Owen Aquino said he’s a New York City FC Founding Member because to be part of Major League Soccer’s newest franchise “means embarking on a journey destined for greatness.”
The 27-year-old from the Bronx embarked on his own journey last weekend as the winner of a Cityzens sweepstakes that awarded one lucky member and his/her guest the chance to cheer on the Club against defending MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy on August 23 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
“I had so many City Points I decided to use most of them on the L.A. sweepstakes,” said Aquino, a Program Counselor for the Educational Talent Search Program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. “I thought to myself that it would be a surreal experience if I won. So I just clicked away.”

Aquino said he received the good news that he won the exclusive package, which included roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations for two nights and two match tickets, while riding the 4 train uptown.
“I was ecstatic,” he recalled. “I couldn’t believe it. My emotions were truly overwhelming.”
Aquino and his older brother, David, packed their bags and headed west. Owen said he had never been to California prior to the excursion, so he enjoyed the new experience – and views.
“Hermosa and Manhattan Beach had some stunning views to offer,” he said. “Although we lost the best part of the trip was being at StubHub Center representing NYCFC like a true New Yorker – loud and proud.”
The whole experience might not have happened if Aquino wasn’t a New York City FC Founding Member. He has one person to thank for that.
“I have to thank my long-time girlfriend for giving me NYCFC season tickets for Christmas last year,” he said.
