New York City FC forward David Villa and midfielder Frank Lampard have been named to the 22-man gameday roster for the 2015 Major League Soccer All-Star Game, it was announced Saturday afternoon.
Villa, who leads the Club with 10 goals and ranks third in the league, was voted into the Fan XI on Monday evening, while Lampard, Chelsea's all-time leading scorer, was selected as one of two picks by Commissioner Don Garber.
The MLS All-Stars face Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League in the MLS All-Star Game at 9 p.m. ET on July 29 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado. The match will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 and UniMas in the United States and TSN and RDS in Canada.
The 22-man MLS All-Star gameday roster is comprised of the two Commissioner's picks as well as 20 players selected by Colorado Rapids and MLS All-Star head coach Pablo Mastroeni, including from the list of players from the Fan XI. While the players named to the Fan XI were not guaranteed a spot on the gameday roster, the outcome of fan voting is taken into consideration as the 22-man roster is decided.
