New York City FC forward David Villa and midfielder Kwadwo Poku have been named to the Major League Soccer Team of the Week for Week 21, the league announced today.
Villa continued his torrid scoring stretch with his third brace in four matches, while Poku had three assists in the 5-3 victory over Orlando City SC in front of 32,041 on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
Villa scored in the 45th and 67th minutes to bring his team-leading goal tally to 12. He currently ranks third in MLS, trailing Kei Kamara (15) and Sebastian Giovinco (13). New York City FC's captain also added an assist on Mix Diskerud's goal in stoppage time to guarantee all three points.
Poku, who made his third start of the season, had a hand in three of the Club's goals. The Ghanaian was involved on the final three finishes -- Villa's strike in the 67th, Tommy McNamara's left-footed blast in the 71st and Mix's goal in the 93rd.
He has a team-leading six assists in his debut season in MLS.
Villa has been named to an MLS Team of the Week on six occasions, while Poku earned his first nod.
