David Villa nominated for MLS Goal of the Week

MLS Goal of the Week (Week 2) nominees

David Villa has accomplished so much in his career. In his first season in Major League Soccer, the New York City FC forward and 2010 World Cup winner appears destined to add to his achievements. Fittingly, the Club's first-ever player and captain was the first to find the back of the net at Yankee Stadium as New York City FC topped New England 2-0 in front of 43,507 fans in the Club's Historic Home Opener on Sunday evening.

Villa's goal was nominated for the MLS Goal of the Week.

In the 19th minute, Villa galloped down the left wing and cut inside before laying the ball off to Ned Grabavoy. The midfielder one-touched a through ball to Villa, who continued his run into the box. Villa took two more touches before opening up his body and side-footing the ball into the low far corner for a 1-0 advantage.

This is the third time a New York City FC player has been nominated for a weekly MLS award. After the 1-1 draw at Orlando City SC on March 8, Mix Diskerud was nominated for the MLS Goal of the Week, while goalie Josh Saunders was nominated for the MLS Save of the Week.
