How did you get involved with City in the Community?
When I came to the United States from Yemen I was 9 years old. I was in fourth grade when I joined my school’s soccer program. Over the years that developed and developed and became a bigger soccer program in the community.
Who is your soccer coach and what do you like about him?
I have a lot of great and awesome coaches. Coach Barry is my current coach. What I really like about Coach Barry is that he’s a good mentor and advisor. He gives everyone a chance to play, too.
Who is your tutor and how helpful has she been to you?
I have a lot of helpful tutors, but my main tutors are Brooke and Justin; they are volunteers from the U.S. Attorney's Office. They have been so helpful to me. They help me with my homework and studies which helped me boost my grades in school.
Run us through a typical week as part of City Soccer.
I have practice Tuesdays and Thursdays at Randall’s Island, tutoring and Saturday Night Lights program on Fridays and games on the weekends.
What do you like most about City in the Community?
What I really like about City in the Community is that it helps me and my teammates get better at soccer. It also helps us with school work by providing us with tutoring. Being part of City in the Community will help me and give me more opportunities in the future. It will help me become a better person and soccer player.
