Frank Lampard Voted MLS Player of the Week

New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 26th week of the 2016 MLS season.

On a night that NYCFC and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio celebrated Lampard’s 300 career goals, the English icon added to his already impressive tally, scoring two late goals to give NYCFC a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over D.C. United at Yankee Stadium. Lampard has been on a tear over the last three months, now ranking in the top 10 league wide after scoring all 11 of his tallies in the previous 13 matches. NYCFC currently sits atop the Eastern Conference standings (44 points, 12-8-8), and is riding a five-game home win streak.

The highest scoring midfielder in English Premier League history sparked the comeback with a tremendous goal in the 85th minute off a ball from teammate David Villa. Lampard collected the loose ball in the box and drilled a right-footed shot far post to give New York City FC a 2-1 advantage.

Lampard proceeded to score the game winner only moments later after D.C. United scored a quick equalizer. After making a run into the box, Lampard juked a defender to create enough space for a left-footed shot past diving goalkeeper Bill Hamid, giving NYCFC a late 3-2 victory with his stoppage time goal.
