It was a pretty good weekend for Jack Harrison…
New York City FC forward Jack Harrison has been voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the ninth week of the 2017 MLS season.
The 20-year-old Harrison notched the first brace of his MLS career in NYCFC’s 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday, with the team improving to 3-0-0 this season and 6-1-0 all-time when the Englishman scores a goal.
Harrison now has four goals and one assist on the season, equaling his scoring total from last year’s rookie campaign. With the victory, New York City FC now sits in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with 13 points (4-3-1 overall record).
Harrison put NYCFC on the board in the early moments of the match, receiving Maxi Moralez’s pass directly in front of goal and chipping goalkeeper Zack Steffen with a quick left-footed shot to give his squad a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of play.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft would then give NYCFC the game winner in the 76th minute off teammate Yangel Herrera’s interception. Harrison found Herrera’s pass in the box and slickly squeezed a left-footed shot past a charging Steffen into the back left corner of goal for a 3-2 advantage.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
Jack was also nominated earlier for the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award and won a place in the Team of the Week.
Yangel's game-tieing goal and assist was also recognized with a place on the bench.
