One third of children in New York City’s public elementary schools are obese or overweight. For the last two years, young leaders have been harnessing New York City’s passion for soccer to get over 600 kids fitter and healthier across the city. And, with help from SAP volunteers, they have also created a network of community soccer festivals, allowing them to reach out to even more kids.
Now Diana, 17, and other young leaders are back for a third year to deliver their Healthy Hat-Trick program and will work with 500 young people to shape their lives and give them a healthier and brighter future. “I remember the first group of kids I worked with on this program and I could see how soccer motivated the kids to implement what they learn about eating well and being active. Now we also run community festivals so we can more kids and work with their families as well. We can bring everyone in.”
This project is delivered in partnership with South Bronx United, BW Gottschee, Downtown United Soccer Club and New York City in the Community.
