Thursday night is Soccer Sisters Night at Yankee Stadium when Minnesota United come to the Bronx to face NYCFC.

For this special night, we’ve invited author Andrea Montalbano and USWNT legend Brandi Chastain for a meet and greet before the game.

Andrea is the author of the Soccer Sisters series of children’s books and an NYCFC fan from day one.

This is her story…

Humans of NYCFC: Andrea Montalbano -

I grew up playing soccer, loving the game and, honestly, there were just no books like this for me when I was a child. The girls’ game is growing so quickly here in the States and I think it’s just about time for a girls’ soccer series of books like this. I really believe that the message of Soccer Sisters is about friendship, the lessons you learn and the fun you can have through soccer – that’s what this is about. When you love this sport and you meet someone else who feels the same, you just get each other. Soccer Sisters is really all about sharing the love of the greatest game in the world.

I live in Westchester and we were season ticket holders from the inaugural year – we were waiting a long time to have a team in New York City and I just can’t believe how great it’s been in just three years and now it’s incredible that the club is launching a Girls Academy. The more that you have MLS teams supporting the girls game, the faster and better it’s going to be. It’s a strong message that a men’s’ professional team has shown this belief that girls can play. I’m a strong advocate that girls all over the world have a right to play and there could be no stronger support for that than to have a Development Academy within a professional soccer team.

I am so excited for Thursday night, I can’t wait to see all those fans and girls sitting together – it’ll be girl power and NYCFC power – it’s going to be awesome.
