The first player, the first captain, the first MVP: in June 2014, David Villa arrived at New York City FC before the team even had a kit.
El Guaje seems to make history every time he takes to the field in NYCFC blue.
On the day he agreed to a new one-year contract extension with the club, he tells his story, #FromDayOneā¦
Football was much, much more than I hoped it would be. If I dreamed as a kid, I could never have foreseen such amazing things but looking back, thinking about the past and what I've done makes no sense - I'd like to keep achieving things. Then, when I retire, I will appreciate everything that's happened and everything I've achieved.
I believe the best moments for NYCFC are still ahead of us.
Three years ago, we started a very good project to build this amazing club and they chose me to be the first captain which Iām still so proud of. When I look back to those first days in 2014, itās really amazing to see how far weāve come in such a short space of time and to know that there is so much potential for us to continue growing, on and off the field.
Iām so happy here in this city and at this club, I am fit and I can do things on the pitch - Iām not ready to go to the sidelines. Thatās why continuing here and signing this contract was a really easy decision for me.
I want to say thank you to everybody for the support ā from the first day until now, they love me and I love them. They give me all the support inside and outside of the pitch and they are a huge part of our successes, both in the past and the ones to come in our future.
Donāt miss seeing David take to the Etihad Pitch for #NYCFCFamily Day on Sunday afternoon.
