New York City FC will be without nine first-team players for Wednesday night’s showdown with Sporting KC.
David Villa today underwent medical tests in New York after withdrawing from the Spanish National team because of irritation to his adductor muscle.
This irritation will keep him out of contention for tomorrow’s game, although the club’s medical team are hopeful he will be available for Saturday’s match versus Portland Timbers.
Alex Ring has also returned to New York as a precautionary measure after sustaining a toe injury on international duty, ruling him out of Finland’s game against Kosovo on Tuesday.
He will be assessed by the medical team over the next 24 hours.
Also on the sidelines, Miguel Camargo is out for the season, while Maxime Chanot, Mikey Lopez, Ronald Matarrita and Ethan White are still recovering from their injuries.
Yangel Herrera is likely to start for Venezuela vs. Argentina tonight in Buenos Aires, while Rodney Wallace is suspended game due to yellow card accumulation after picking up his fifth caution of the season against Red Bulls.
The Western Conference’s Sporting KC are not at full strength either as they have four players involved in international games.
Matt Besler and Graham Zusi will both be involved for the USMNT in Honduras, while Soony Saad and James Musa are representing Lebanon and New Zealand respectively.
Cameron Porter is the only injured player on the KC’s roster, as per MLSSoccer.com.
NYCFC are looking to inflict a first-ever defeat on their visitors at the third time of asking and can increase their advantage over Chicago Fire to six points with the win, while KC can move top of the Western Conference if they can defeat NYC for a third time.
