Two New York City Football Club players have been selected to represent their country later this month.
Ilenič, 19, joined NYCFC in January 2023 and has previously represented his country at U17, U18, U19, and U21 level.
He will now aim to make his senior national team debut for Slovenia later this month as they prepare to take on the United States Men’s National Team.
Ilenič may face his NYCFC teammate Sands after Gregg Berhalter included the midfielder as part his 25-man January training camp.
To date, Sands has 13 caps for his country, and last featured for the USMNT during the 2023 Gold Cup. The two sides will compete in a friendly game in San Antonio, Texas, on January 20.
