Jon Patricof to Vacate NYCFC President Position and Take Up Board Role

Jon Patricof Announcement

Jon Patricof, President of New York City Football Club, is to leave his position at the end of the calendar year.

Patricof, whose three-year contract concludes in December 2018, will join NYCFC’s Board of Directors, thereby ensuring continued strong links between him and the organization. His three years working across a broad range of projects leave him uniquely positioned to advise and support the NYCFC Board in its future strategic direction.

During Jon’s tenure as President, the Club’s first team has qualified for the playoffs for three successive seasons and the youth academy has expanded substantially.

Away from the field, his three years in the organization has seen growth in all areas, including in revenues, in infrastructure with the building and opening of the Club’s Etihad City Football Academy Training Facility in Orangeburg, NY and in the expanding of the Club’s roots into the fabric of the City with supporter club engagement programs and philanthropic projects such as New York City Soccer Initiative.

Speaking of his three-year Presidency, Patricof, said:

“It has been an absolute honor to help develop New York City FC during this phase of its evolution and I want to thank all of my colleagues, the New York Yankees, our civic and commercial partners and of course, our fans for their incredible commitment to the Club’s development. I also feel privileged to have been a part of Major League Soccer at such an exciting time for the sport. There is still much work to accomplish and I am excited to continue my involvement as a member of the Board as we look forward to the exciting soccer related opportunities in this great City.”

Ferran Soriano, CEO of City Football Group and Managing Director of NYCFC, said:

“Marty Edelman, our Chairman and I would like to thank Jon for all he has done for New York City FC, and for his contribution to City Football Group’s leadership team over the past three years. He has been an effective, strategic leader of the Club at a time of significant expansion and growth on and off the field and I am delighted he has agreed to continue on the Board and work with us on our major strategic future projects.”

The search for Jon’s successor is underway and will be announced in due course. A smooth transition is expected given that Jon remains in post until the end of the year.
