Josh Saunders was named New York City FC’s Defensive Player of the Year for The Club’s inaugural season.
Saunders led Major League Soccer in saves this season with 124 saves; he faced 188 shots, which also led the league. The goalkeeper had a goal against average of 1.73.
"I am proud and honored to be receiving this team award," said Saunders. "I look forward to a successful season next year and will work even harder to help us achieve that."
Saunders played 33 games for New York City FC and logged a record of 10-16-7. The 34-year-old also registered four clean sheets.
Saunders was nominated for Major League Soccer’s Save of the week 11 times this season.

Saunders most productive month was in March, in a span of four games Saunders registered two clean sheets, only allowed two goals and had 11 saves.
The goalkeeper won New York City FC’s Etihad Airways Player of the Month for both March and April.
