While the postponement of the Hudson River Derby was unfortunate, it has afforded the team a 10-day break between games. The intensity of Ronny Deila’s training sessions means the players will still be tested physically during that period, but they should arrive with a freshness both mentally and physically as they finish out what has been a demanding month.
New England are currently top of the Eastern Conference, and NYCFC remain in hot pursit. Arriving at the game well-rested could easily provide an extra edge to the Boys in Blue. The last time the two sides met it was the Revs that emerged victorious, despite NYCFC having the better of the game and creating more chances.
Goalkeeper Matt Turner was in fine form that evening, and alongside a mercurial moment from Gustavo Bou it helped the Revs to a win. There’ll be a desire to even the score this time out, and the hope is a few extra days off will help them achieve that.

The Boys in Blue have shown a propensity to start games fast and hit the ground running. That should be the aim on Saturday, if only to stop the Revs from building a rhythm and momentum. Ronny Deila has a number of options to pick from in the final third, all offering something a little bit different.
Being blessed with such depth is a major bonus, and to their credit, NYCFC have stepped up at home of late – beating both Columbus Crew and Orlando City SC in convincing fashion. Another front foot performance is required on Saturday, and if NYCFC deliver, it could be a huge boost.
