Ronald Matarrita has been recognized for his stellar showing in Philadelphia, tallying one assist to earn a spot on the MLS Team of the Week.
NYCFC defeated the Philadelphia Union 2-0 on Friday night to claim the first road win of the season.
The Costa Rican international was not only part of a strong defensive effort and a clean sheet, but he was key in the opening goal for NYCFC, distributing a left-footed through ball to Jack Harrison who finished with his left foot.
Harrison told NYCFC.com: “Mata came inside and I was looking at him, made the run and he played a brilliant ball through.”
David Villa, who scored a world class goal of his own, is also recognized with a place on the bench.
