New York City FC were back in the Bronx for the second Hudson River Derby of the season. The visitors took the lead in the 43rd minute through Omir Fernandez. Despite a spirited effort from the home side, they were denied by a combination of good goalkeeping and wayward finishing.

New York City FC were hunting Hudson River Derby success on Saturday night as they took on the Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium.
Head Coach Ronny Deila was forced into changes after a pair of red cards midweek, and that saw Nicolás Acevedo, Talles Magno, and Ismael Tajouri Shradi come in for Keaton Parks, Maxime Chanot, and Jesús Medina
The home side started fast, and that saw Maxi Moralez and Taty Castellanos earn early looks at goal.
That was followed in the 7th minute by a powerful header from Alexander Callens that was cleared off the line.
At the other end, a long throw from the Red Bulls allowed Omir Fernandez to get a shot off at close range, but Sean Johnson stood tall to deny him.
Both sides played into the frantic tempo in the first half-hour, and that saw the ball flow from end to end.
NYCFC remained committed to trying to play through the lines, with their opponents keen to make the most of any counter-attacking opportunities that were presented.
The Red Bulls took a surprise lead in the 43rd minute when a low cross from Kyle Duncan found Fernandez free in the penalty area to convert.
In response, Castellanos tried an audacious bicycle kick from the top of the box that landed on the roof of the net.
The second period began with two changes for NYCFC as Medina and Santiago Rodríguez entered for Talles Magno and Tajouri-Shradi.
Johnson came up big for the Boys in Blue after Dru Yearwood got off a strike just inside the penalty area.
In the 58th minute, Gudi Thórarinsson stung the palms of Carlos Coronel from a freekick, with the shot-stopper spilling the effort.
Deila would again turn to his bench in the 68th minute, introducing Héber and Malte Amundsen in place of Thórarinsson and Callens.
NYCFC thought they had the equalizer in the 71st minute when Castellanos connected with a delightful corner from Moralez, but a reflex stop from Coronel kept his clean sheet intact.
That was followed by a golden opportunity for Medina in the 79th minute, but his header ended up straight at Coronel to palm away from goal for a corner.
As the clock wound down there was a final change for NYCFC in the 85th minute as Thiago Andrade entered the field in place of Acevedo, who had put in a tremendous effort.
Unfortunately, in the end, NYCFC could not find a route back into the game, and that saw the Red Bulls win 1-0.
