New York City Football Club continued their preseason schedule with a meeting against CF Montréal on Saturday afternoon in Orlando, Florida.

Head Coach Ronny Deila opted for a strong starting XI and utilized a 4-3-3 formation with the Club’s three Brazilians – Thiago, Héber and, Talles Magno - leading the attack.

The Boys in Blue started the game the better of the two sides and were able to control possession early on.

That allowed them to engineer several early looks at goal before finding the breakthrough in the 30th minute.

Arriving after good play down the left, a cross into the box found its way to Thiago and he converted from close range.

As the half continued Montréal began to grow into the game and created several chances of their own.

NYCFC were able to maintain their advantage heading into half-time, and were able to secure a second goal early in the second period.

The team’s second strike of the day arrived after a smart through ball by Santiago Rodríguez allowed Héber to lay the ball on for Andres Jasson to convert.

Deila turned to his bench on the hour mark and introduced a raft of changes including the Club’s SuperDraft selections and academy players.

Montréal continued to push for a goal and they earned a route back into the game when Joaquin Torres converted from a narrow angle.

NYCFC continued to push for a third goal to close out the game, but it would be Montréal that struck next.

A through ball on the edge of the penalty area freed Sunusi Ibrahim in behind and he side-footed the ball into the bottom corner.

That was the final act of the game and saw the two teams play out a 2-2 tie. Next up for NYCFC is a friendly meeting with Cancun FC next Saturday, February 5.
