It’s the final media roundup before the start of preseason and there are plenty of interesting soundbites out there.
The Panamanian international has opened up on his reasons for joining NYCFC from Chorillo FC and what he hopes to learn in his time with the club.
Camargo told Crooks: “It’s always a dream of every kid that plays football to play by the side of the big names in the world. Getting a chance to play with them (Villa, Pirlo) is motivation – to go the extra mile and have that chance.
“I have followed the league (Major League Soccer) and I understand that a lot of players from Panama and other countries like to come to MLS,” said Camargo. “The players want to come because they know they are going to be treated well and at the same time, it’s good football with good players.”
Elsewhere, Patrick Vieira appeared on ESPN FC’s Boot Room show and discussed his targets for the season ahead, as well as his coaching philosophy.
Vieira disclosed to host Bernardo Osuna: “We need to be consistent on what we want to do. If you look at the last two years we’ve been improving a lot, both on and off the field.
“We still have a lot of work to do of course but it’s important for us to have clear philosophy on what we want the club to look like.
“When you look at the games we played last year we had a clear philosophy on how we want to play the game and that shouldn’t change so it’s important for us to bring in the right players who can make us improve, who can make us challenge the best teams in the league, to be competitive and to help us keep our same philosophy.”
Finally, David Villa has backed his old manager Pep Guardiola to be a success at NYCFC’s sister club, Manchester City.
City are up against Spurs at the Etihad Stadium this weekend aiming to shake off last weekend’s 4-0 defeat to Everton.
Villa said: “He [Pep] has a difficult period right now but I believe he will change the situation.
"(It) is normal to have a difficult period with the team, but he is great and I think he has a methodology and he has a very good coaching staff to change the situation and the future (at City) will be better for sure.
"Soccer is difficult in every country and I am so lucky that I was able to play for Guardiola. He is a great coach, for everyone who likes soccer. But in soccer it is difficult to win and he has almost always won. His statistics are amazing.”
