New York City Football can today announce that it has re-signed Midfielder Justin Haak to a contract through 2025 with an option for 2026.

The Brooklyn native signed his first professional contract in 2019 as the Club’s third-ever Homegrown player and the first-ever signing from the five boroughs. Since then, the Midfielder has made 27 appearances, playing 1,083 minutes for the ‘Boys in Blue,’ across all competitions.

Justin Haak said: “I call New York home and for me to be able to represent this City is truly an honor. It’s always been a goal of mine to continue my development here with the Club that has given me everything. I want to thank Dave and everyone for believing in me. I am proud to continue the rich heritage we are creating here.

“Seeing the success that previous Homegrowns have had here, I believe this is the best place to continue my development. There have been so many leaders in the locker room that have given me advice and have helped me grow. I will continue to work hard to achieve our goals and hope to have more success in the coming years.”

Last season, Haak made a breakthrough into the First Team after a strong performance against FC Dallas and went on to feature in 15 matches in Major League Soccer (MLS), including an appearance in the 2022 Campeones Cup victory. In addition, Haak also suited up for MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, NYCFC II, playing in six matches and scoring a goal for the side.

“I would like to thank all the support our fans have given me since day one. From the Academy all the way through to the First Team they have always had my back, I would like to repay them by bringing them happiness with my performances,” said Haak. “There is a lot of talent in New York City, it’s just about believing in your ability, I am just another example that hard work and sacrifice pays off at this Club.”

Haak was part of the Club’s first-ever Academy team, the U14s in 2015, progressing through the entire pathway, helping the Club claim the Generation Adidas Cup and the USDA Championship in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Sporting Director David Lee said: “Justin is the perfect example of the local talent we have here in the five boroughs. As a Club, we are committed to continuing to identify young talent and giving them all the tools necessary to develop. With Justin being the third Homegrown to sign a new contract, it shows our ability to continually nurture and produce First Team talent from the Tri-state area.

“Justin’s has taken full advantage of his opportunity with his work ethic and performances. We look forward to helping Justin achieve his full potential while contributing to the success of our Club.”
