We’re nearing the end of our quest to uncover the favorite players of every NYCFC squad member…
It’s been an epic journey but it’s not over just yet – we’ve still got a few more to bring you as we round up the stragglers.
Today, it’s John Stertzer’s turn.
The midfielder joined the club in the summer and he’s gone for someone who represented the club he supported as a boy – a World Cup winner and a current Premier League star…
John Stertzer’s favorite player is Cesc Fabregas.
John on Fabregas…
“I was a huge Cesc Fabregas fan growing up – especially when he was at Arsenal, I remember watching him play and I always tried to play like him a little bit. It’s fun watching him although, honestly, when he went over to Chelsea I was a little bit heartbroken about that but he’s someone I always looked up to.”
Cesc Fabregas: Born to Win
Few current players in world football have gone on to win as many medals as Spanish World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas.
The midfielder has lifted trophies wherever his career has taken him, starting at Arsenal where he won the league as a teammate of a certain Patrick Vieira.
In North London, Cesc spent eight years, winning the FA Cup in 2005 before transferring to FC Barcelona in 2011 where he linked up with Mr David Villa.
At Barcelona, Fabregas won La Liga, the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup and then went on to move to Chelsea where he’s currently closing in on a second Premier League title in three years.
For his nation, Fabregas has won more than a century of caps and was a crucial member of the Spain squad which won three consecutive major competitions: Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012.
His crowning moment came when he played a part in the creation of Andres Iniesta’s World Cup-winning goal in 2010 and now, at the age of 29, he still has a good few years of his best soccer ahead of him.
Status Update
Cesc has been at Chelsea FC for the last three years and is part of a team who are seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table at the time of writing.
