BRONX | Members of the New York City FC Academy got a taste of what first-team soccer in front of 30,000 supporters is like as the players were in attendance for the Club’s 2-1 loss to Columbus Crew SC on August 29 at Yankee Stadium.

The players were able to go down on the field near the team benches for a close-up view before enjoying the match from seats behind home plate.

“This was a historic moment for the Club – introducing the first Academy team in front of 30,000 passionate supporters at Yankee Stadium,” Youth Technical Director Rodrigo Marion said. “We are very proud of this group of players and the affiliate clubs where they come from. We look forward to great years to come.”

New York City FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna addressed the crowd of 30,018 and stressed the importance of the relationship between the affiliates and Major League Soccer’s newest franchise.

“Our affiliate clubs are a big part of New York City FC,” Reyna said. “Back when we started the Club they were a key component of us reaching out to the community. They’ve been in New York City for many, many years and it’s exciting for us to have them as partners on and off the field. We look forward to these relationships for months and years to come.”

Both the New York City FC Academy and Affiliate Development League begin play for the first time ever Labor Day Weekend.
