New York City FC and WNYE Radio Partnership Renewed

NYCFC and WNYE Partnership

New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and NYC Media, the City’s official broadcast network, today announced a renewal of the groundbreaking partnership established in 2018 that will have WNYE 91.5 FM, the City of New York’s official radio station, broadcast NYCFC games during the 2019 Major League Soccer Season.

The station is managed and operated by NYC Media, which has five TV channels as well as the radio station, and reaches an audience of 18 million. NYC Media is a division of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME).

The partnership will continue to provide live play-by-play action for the Club’s remaining 32 matches with the next match taking place on March 17 when NYCFC hosts LAFC at 3:00 p.m.

Soccer journalist and commentator Glenn Crooks returns to the radio booth and will be on every game call. Crooks will be joined in a majority of the matches by former Crystal Palace and Millwall defender, Matthew Lawrence. A rotating group of other former players and journalists will join Crooks throughout the season.

NYCFC CEO, Brad Sims, said: “We are excited to continue our partnership with NYC Media to build on a hugely successful first year of broadcasting together. Like last season, all of our games for our 2019 MLS campaign will be available live on WNYE 91.5 FM.

“It’s important for us as a Club to have our games accessible to all New Yorkers across the five boroughs and beyond. This allows our fans to stay close to the Club, as well as giving an opportunity to those who are new to the game to get an understanding of what makes soccer so special. I’d like to thank NYC Media as well as our commentator, Glenn Crooks, for the terrific collaboration and bringing us such high-quality broadcasts.”

WNYE-FM’s continuation of soccer programing strengthens its already robust lineup that creates a diverse listenership across the City. Its aim is to inform, educate and reflect the diversity of interests that are included throughout the five boroughs.

“New York City is full of soccer fans from every corner of the world and we are thrilled to be able to carry NYCFC games on our radio station for all New Yorkers to enjoy,” said Anne del Castillo, Acting Commissioner of MOME. “We could not be more pleased to renew our partnership with NYCFC this year and give more fans a chance to cheer on their favorite players and teams.”

“I never take for granted the good fortune I’ve had to provide the radio commentary for NYCFC since the expansion year,” said match commentator Glenn Crooks. “Having grown up in the metropolitan area, I’ve been a huge New York Sports fan all my life. Through these broadcasts, I get to share my passion for soccer in the country’s greatest sports City.”
