New York City FC Bolsters Roster in Expansion Draft

New York City FC today acquired 10 players as part of the MLS Expansion Draft.


The Club picked the following players who are now included in New York City FC’s roster:


Ned Grabavoy, Real Salt Lake
Patrick Mullins, New England Revolution
Jason Hernandez, San Jose Earthquakes
Daniel Lovitz, Toronto FC
Tony Taylor, New England Revolution
Mehdi Ballouchy, Vancouver Whitecaps
George John, FC Dallas
Thomas McNamara, DC United
Sal Zizzo, Sporting Kansas City
Chris Wingert, Real Salt Lake


New York City FC’s first pick, midfielder Ned Grabavoy, rejoins Jason Kreis, Miles Joseph and CJ Brown, from Real Salt Lake.


The second pick was forward, Patrick Mullins, who started for New England Revolution in Sunday’s MLS Championship final.


The third pick was defender and native New Yorker, Jason Hernandez who joins from San Jose Earthquakes.


Head Coach, Jason Kreis, said:


“For the first time, we have a player for every position, which we are delighted with. We have some great talent across our roster and have brought in some terrific players today. We are hugely excited for March and to continue to build what we hope will be a winning squad.”


Speaking immediately following the draft, New York City FC Sporting Director, Claudio Reyna said:


“We couldn’t be happier with how the draft went. The sporting team has worked tirelessly to make sure we were ready and we could not have been better prepared. It is a huge testament to Jason and his team that we have emerged from the draft in such great shape and we are really looking forward to welcoming our new players to the Club.”
