Nine days removed from a thrilling 3-2 win over D.C. United at Yankee Stadium, New York City FC returns to action Saturday night to take on the New England Revolution from Gillette Stadium.
Playing their second game in the penultimate month of the regular season, NYCFC (12-8-8) remain in first place in the Eastern Conference with six matches remaining. But there is no breathing room atop the table with the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC and Philadelphia Union separated by just three points.
“It’s difficult because the other teams are so close to us,” midfielder Andoni Iraola said. “Every point is important, every game I think we have to focus on the next one and see how this finishes. I think we’re in a good position to play in the playoffs, but a lot of teams are fighting for the top two spots.”

NYCFC still has the best away form in MLS with a 6-5-3 record away from Yankee Stadium, including a 1-0 win over the Revs at Gillette Stadium on July 6 with Frank Lampard netting the lone goal as the Club extended their unbeaten streak to four games.
New England (7-12-9) is two points below the playoff line in the East with just six matches to play and will be desperate for a result Saturday night. The Revs snapped a six-match winless streak with a massive 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday with Juan Agudelo and Chris Tierney scoring a goal in each half.
“It looks like their confidence is back. There’s some really good players in the midfield, really creative,” NYCFC coach Patrick Vieira said. “It’s a team that went through a difficult period, but it looks like they’re coming back to their best and it will be another tough game away from home.”
This is the third match of the season between the sides with the teams sharing the points in a 1-1 draw at Yankee Stadium on March 26.
After facing the Revs, NYCFC returns home to face FC Dallas on Sept. 17 at 7:00PM ET.
