Match recap …
Frank Lampard scored the lone goal of the match in the second half to lift New York City FC to a 1-0 win against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium Wednesday night.
NYCFC (8-5-6) won its fourth consecutive game for the first time in franchise history and registered a third consecutive clean sheet, also a club record. New England (4-7-7) dropped its third game in a row.

Lampard broke the scoreless stalemate in the 58th minute, steering in his third goal of the season from the edge of the six-yard box.
Andrea Pirlo received a ball from Andoni Iraola and chipped a well-weighted ball into the box where Tommy McNamara latched on. McNamara played a cross to Lampard, who stepped back outside the six-yard box at a perfect time and was able to put the ball in off his knee.
David Villa had two of the best chances of a scoreless first half, putting an attempt from distance off the crossbar in the 22nd minute and then forcing Bobby Shuttleworth into a save two minutes later.

Ronald Matarrita also put a shot on frame, but Shuttleworth dove to get a left hand on the 20-yard attempt in the 17th minute.
Shuttleworth was sent off deep into second half stoppage time for denying Khiry Shelton a clear scoring opportunity.

How they lined up …
Patrick Vieira made one slight change to his preferred 4-3-3 from the squad that defeated the New York Red Bulls, 2-0, Sunday with Ronald Matarrita returning to his regular spot at left back, while RJ Allen moved back to right back.
Jason Hernandez came off the bench in the 65th minute, moving to right back, pushing Allen over to the left side and Matarrita further up the field. Khiry Shelton replaced Matarrita in the 74th minute and moved into the right wing spot with Jack Harrison switching to the other side of the field. Mikey Lopez was the last substitution, replacing Frank Lampard in the 79th minute.

Frank Lampard
The veteran midfielder always seems to make the right runs and create enough space for himself and that was the case on the game’s lone goal, his third of the season. Lampard had made an initial run inside the six-yard box, but quickly pulled himself back just in time to latch onto a Tommy McNamara cross.
Lampard put in a hard-working 79-minute shift, helping NYCFC win a fourth consecutive game.
Key moment …
With New England pressing forward, the Revs earned a corner kick in the second minute of second-half stoppage time and midfielder Lee Nguyen played a dangerous ball into the box. Villa flicked the ball at the near post and Revs forward Teal Bunbury put a downward header back into the mix.
Josh Saunders bravely dove at the ball, which was momentarily loose. But Saunders recovered just in front of Daigo Kobayashi to seal the win.
