New York City FC Players, Coaches Praise Traveling Supporters

Supporters at Philadelphia

CHESTER, Pa. | PPL Park might be the permanent residence for the Sons of Ben, the Philadelphia Union supporters group, but on Saturday the Third Rail and other New York City FC supporters felt right at home.

The official supporters club for Major League Soccer’s newest organization filed into three buses and made the trek down I-95 for the showdown of regional Eastern Conference foes.

“It was fantastic,” head coach Jason Kreis said. “I really think that’s a cool thing and a different thing to live in this part of the country where fans can drive to take the train to different cities. I’m looking forward to more of these types of matches where we hopefully have our fans to support us very well.”

Section 133 of the waterfront stadium was full of boisterous fans clad in City Blue.

Unfortunately, the result wasn’t there as Vincent Nogueira tapped home the match-winner in the 92nd minute to give the Philadelphia Union a 2-1 victory. Despite the result, New York City FC players were thankful of their traveling passionate supporters.

“I can’t tell you how much it means,” midfielder Andrew Jacobson said. “To go out for warmups and hear our fans chanting our names in an away stadium is an amazing feeling.”

New York City FC will have the luxury of more fans chanting their names in their upcoming matches. The Club hosts the Union on Thursday evening and welcomes the Portland Timbers to Yankee Stadium on Sunday night.

Not surprisingly, other New York City FC players took to social media after the match to thank the traveling supporters:
