Today New York City FC announced that it has come to terms with D.C. United trading Goalkeeper Cody Mizell for $50,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM). Mizell is set join D.C. United as a Goalkeeper Coach.
The American goalkeeper joined the Club ahead of the 2021 season from USL Championship side New Mexico United and was a part of the roster that won the MLS Cup and Campeones Cup. Mizell did not make an appearance in his time with the Club.
“We want to thank Cody for his contributions to the Club the past three seasons. Cody has been an important figure behind the scenes, an exemplary professional both on and off the field, always leading by example and bringing positive energy around the locker room, at training and on matchdays,” Sporting Director David Lee said. “Cody has been with us throughout our most successful spell at the Club playing a valuable role in our successes. Although we are disappointed that Cody is departing so close to the start of preseason, we want to support him as he enters the next phase of his career and wish him all the best for the future.”
Mizell’s energy and enthusiasm was infectious and provided a positive spark throughout the Club, which made him well-liked by all around the team. Mizell’s hard work in training earned him a spot on the bench on 22 different occasions across all competitions.
“I want to thank New York for giving me the opportunity to come here and be a part of something special,” Goalkeeper Cody Mizell said. “The past three seasons have been amazing with what we have been able to accomplish together as a team, I take with me memories and moments that I will never forget. As I depart for D.C. to begin my coaching career, I want to thank the Club for allowing me to pursue this next step of my profession. I wish New York City and my teammates all the best this season.”
