New York City FC will close out their regular season with a home match against the New England Revolution on Fan Appreciation Day. The teams are meeting for the third time this season; they split the first two meetings.
In the first match on March 15, David Villa and Patrick Mullins both scored to lead New York City FC to a 2-0 win at Yankees Stadium, it was the first win in franchise history.
However on July 18 at Gillette Stadium, New England defeated New York City FC, 1-0.
Even though New York City FC will not make the playoffs, midfielder Frank Lampard hopes to put on a good performance for the home crowd.
“We have to finish well in front of the home fans. We’re disappointed we did not make the playoffs but all we can do is prepare in the usual way and try and put on a good performance and get a win. “
New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis echoed Lampard’s sentiment.
“I think we head into this match feeling that everything we are trying to do is for our fans. I really feel that the fans have been absolutely terrific all year long. We want to give them something back; we want to put on a terrific performance for them. We are hopeful that we can do that and give them everything we have, walk away with the three points and our heads held high.”
New York City FC has lost their last two consecutive games and search for their 11th win of the season. New England has been winless in their last four matches and has only scored two goals during that span.
The match will take place on Sunday Oct. 25 at Yankee Stadium. Kickoff is 5 p.m. ET (YES, 970AM). Buy Tickets.
