The teams met three times in their inaugural seasons. In the first meeting between the pair of expansion clubs, the teams reached a 1-1 draw March 8 at the Citrus Bowl. Each team then won on its home ground, New York City FC taking a 5-3 win July 26 at Yankee Stadium, and Orlando City returning the favor with a 2-1 win Oct. 16 at the Citrus Bowl.
Team Comparison:

David Villa is coming off a strong performance last week against Toronto FC.  Villa recorded his fifth multiple-goal game in NYCFC’s 2-2 draw at Yankee Stadium. Of the 20 goals Villa has scored for NYCFC, six have been against Toronto FC.
Cyle Larin netted for a second consecutive game as Orlando City SC recorded their second consecutive draw, a 1-1 tie with the Chicago Fire.
David Villa vs Cyle Larin:

New York City FC manager Patrick Vieira said, “The Toronto match was quite good. We played some good football and it was just the second game of the season. The team is getting better and better and I’m really excited about the next game because I saw some really positive stuff. We’re going to keep working in the next few days and the team will be better against Orlando. I think it’s just about dealing with the crucial part of the game; the time when we are over the opposition team or the time when we are struggling. It’s important for us to be a little bit more compact, a little bit stronger when opposition team is over us. I think it’s just about managing the game a little bit better.
"My main focus is to improve from our last game and if we play the right way, then we will give ourselves a better chance to win. If the fans are behind us like they were against Toronto - the support is really important for us - that will give us more chance to win games."
Team Ranking - Goals Scored:

NYCFC defender Ethan White said, “It was great getting out on the field. Playing in front of the home fans, it was great energy, and I can’t wait to get back out there. We trust Patrick and the coaching staff to prepare us for Friday and we’ll be ready. We’re working on playing out of the back, getting more organized and gaining more chemistry. The goal is a W, 3 points.”
