NYCFC – 0
New York Red Bulls – 7
Match recap …
New York City FC suffered a 7-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls in the first of three New York derby matches in front of a crowd of 37,858 Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
It snapped a franchise-best five-match unbeaten streak for NYCFC, which fell to 4-4-5.
Red Bulls jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they scored three goals in the first half.
The tri-state rivals scored another four goals in the second half and sealed the win.
Jack Harrison and Frank Lampard made their season debuts in the second half.
How they lined up …
After rotating in seven new players to the starting XI in a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC at BMO Field Wednesday, Ronald Matarrita and RJ Allen returned to the starting lineup on the outside of Patrick Vieira’s four-man backline, Federico Bravo played behind Andrea Pirlo and Mikey Lopez in the midfield and David Villa was joined by Tommy McNamara and Khiry Shelton up top.
Also, for the first time this season Lampard was among the game-day 18 after recovering from a calf injury.
Harrison made his Major League Soccer debut in the 57th minute, replacing McNamara for Vieira’s first change. Steven Mendoza came on for Shelton in the 69th minute.
Frank Lampard made his 2016 debut in the 75th minute, replacing Pirlo for Vieira’s final change.
Key moment …
Jack Harrison made his Major League Soccer debut, coming off the substitute’s bench in the 57th minute. The first overall selection of the MLS SuperDraft had been sidelined with a pelvic injury. Harrison, who played for NYCFC Affiliate Manhattan Soccer Club, split a pair of defenders in the 81st minute, but wasn’t able to get a shot off.
What it means …
NYCFC lost for the first time since a 2-0 defeat at Philadelphia April 23. NYCFC will look to bounce back against Orlando City SC next Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
