New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis confirmed the Club will be without Sebastian Velasquez for Saturday's match against Sporting Kansas City at Yankee Stadium.
The midfielder, who has played in all three games (two starts) this season, injured his groin in training on Tuesday, Kreis told media after an open training session at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday morning.
"It’s looking fairly serious so he’s out this weekend," Kreis said.
Kreis also provided an update on the condition of Josh Williams. The defender, who started the first two matches, didn't dress for the scoreless draw at Colorado on March 21 due to precautionary reasons. Kreis said Williams is "very doubtful" for this weekend's match against the 2013 MLS Cup Champions.
"I think we should be frank and say it’s a little bit concerning," Kreis said. "We feel we have a handle on it now. It’s one of those situations we have to keep checking, so it’s wait and see. After his pain goes down we’ll put him through some physical testing to make sure everything’s good and as the heart rate is rising he isn’t feeling any pain. It’s a systematic approach and one we have to be very patient with."
