New York City Football Club has today drafted three players during the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
The first player selected during the SuperDraft was midfielder Malcolm Johnston from the University of Maryland with the 26th overall pick.
Johnston, 21, started 17 games for the Terrapins last season and registered six goals and eight assists in the process.
Named team captain when he was a Junior, Malcolm is the brother of former CF Montréal defender, and Canadian international, Alistair Johnston.
That was followed by the selection of forward Braudílio Rodrigues from Franklin Pierce University with the 55th overall pick.
A native of Lisbon, Portugal, Rodrigues recorded 22 goals and 20 assists in 26 games played this past season - making him the Division II leader in the process.
A tricky and talented forward, he spent time in the youth ranks of Benfica.
NYCFC’s final selection came with the 66th overall pick, which they used to claim Rutgers University forward Matthew Myers.
Named to the All-Big South First Team, Myers recorded 13 goals and six assists in 18 games played in 2022.
