New York City Football Club (NYCFC) today announced that it has traded Defender Malte Amundsen to the Columbus Crew in exchange for up to $500K in General Allocation Money (GAM).
The Club will receive a guaranteed $400,000, with $200,000 in 2023 GAM and $200,000 in 2024 GAM, with up to an additional $100,000 if certain performance-based incentives are met. The deal was agreed to before the Primary Transfer Window closed on Monday, April 24, 2023.
Sporting Director David Lee said: “We would like to thank Malte for all his contributions to the Club. Malte has been an utmost professional since the day he arrived and has played a part in our success the last couple of seasons. We wish him all the best in Columbus.”
The Dane arrived in New York ahead of the 2021 season and featured in all four of the Club’s playoff matches during its championship run. Throughout his time in The Bronx, the right-back appeared in 71 matches scoring one goal and providing five assists across all competitions for the Club, winning MLS Cup and Campeones Cup along the way.
Defender Malte Amundsen said: “I would like to thank everyone at the Club for everything they have done for me. I take with me a lot of great memories both on-and-off the pitch, winning MLS Cup alongside my teammates is something I will never forget. I look forward to the new challenge ahead and I wish everyone at NYCFC the best of luck the rest of the season.”
