New York City Football Club can today confirm that three of our NYCFC II roster have been selected to represent their country during the upcoming international window.
Christian McFarlane will jet off early in September to link up with the England U17s as they prepare for the Pinatar Supercup, which runs from September 6 until September 12. The English U17 team will be joined by in the tournament by their counterparts from Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
Speaking on Christian's callup, NYCFC II Head Coach Matthew Pilkington said, "We've been really pleased with Christian's progress so far this season. He has played a significant number of games for NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro, and we believe continued exposure to international youth football will only enhance his game. We will be tracking his progress while he is away, and look forward to seeing how he returns to us after the upcoming international break."
McFarlane is joined on international duty by Klevis Haxhari, who will represent Albania's U19s in September as they take on Azerbaijan.
"We knew 2023 was going to be an important year for Klevis after signing his first professional contract late last year. He has continued to make strides with NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro and earned important minutes on the field. We believe this upcoming opportunity to play international youth football will be another step in his development, and we look forward to seeing how he responds to that."
Joining them on the trail is Brian Flores. The defender has earned a call-up to the senior Puerto Rican Men's National Team for Concacaf Nations League games scheduled on September 7 & 13. Flores and his countrymen will face off against the Bahamas first followed by a meeting with Antigua and Barbuda.
The Club would like to congratulate Christian, Klevis, and Brian on their international selections and wish them well on their travels.
