Last night, New York City FC was recognized as a finalist for the 2017 ESPN Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year Award.
The award ceremony, held at L.A. LIVE’s The Novo, celebrated and honored leagues, teams, individuals, and members of the sporting community that are using the power of sport to inspire social good.
In recognition of being named as a finalist for this award, NYCFC will receive a $25,000 grant from ESPN to direct at City in the Community (CITC), the charity proudly supported by NYCFC.
Through CITC, NYCFC uses soccer to tackle social issues and reach more than 4,000 young people each week in underserved neighborhoods across the five boroughs. In addition to free in-school and after-school programming at local schools, NYCFC and its partners have committed to build 50 pitches throughout the five boroughs over a five-year period.
NYCFC has also deepened its commitment to developing the next generation of local leaders through the “Youth Leadership Council” and “Young Leader Training Program” which build pathways for young people to solve problems in their communities through policy, practice, and advocacy service.
To be named as a finalist for this award is a great recognition as NYCFC continues its commitment to making a tangible and lasting impact on the health and happiness of New Yorkers.
The NYCFC family would like to thank all of our terrific partners who make our community work possible. We’d also like to congratulate the other finalists for their hard work and commitment to their communities.
