New York City FC has announced that it will partner with the TECHEETAH Formula E team for the Big Apple’s inaugural all-electric championship race, which will take place on the streets of Brooklyn on July 15 and 16.

The TECHEETAH team’s cars will carry the New York City FC logo throughout the New York City ePrix weekend, and world-class racers Jean-Eric Vergne and Stephane Sarrazin will visit a New York City FC first team training session to get performance tips and insights before their Formula E race.

While the US has previously hosted Formula E events in Miami and Long Beach, the New York ePrix will be the first time that a FIA-sanctioned motorsport race has taken place on the streets of America’s largest city. A specially designed 1.21 mile track around the Atlantic Basin will push the electric racers to their limits, set against the backdrop of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

Jon Patricof, President of New York City FC, commented: “Formula E is rapidly growing and working together with TECHEETAH offers us the opportunity to support a local event in the five boroughs and engage New York sports fans in a new, interesting way.”

“We encourage our fans to attend this weekend’s race and experience what should be an amazing show before we take on Toronto on Wednesday, July 19 at Yankee Stadium.”

TECHEETAH and New York City FC are both part of the same sporting family, with each having a relationship with China Media Capital, which consists of CMC Capital Partners and CMC Holdings – collectively China’s leading investment and operating platforms in the media and entertainment, internet and mobile, and lifestyle sectors. CMC also owns shares in the FIA Formula E Championship.

Mark Preston, TECHEETAH Team Principal, commented: “We are very excited about our relationship with New York City FC, which is an ideal fit as we are both pushing for excellence in our respective sports and are both renowned for promoting a culture of trying to bring fans closer to the team that they love.”

“We hope that this initiative will bring new fans to Formula E and get them excited about the rapid pace of development in the electric vehicle market. We look forward to putting on a good show for New York CityFC fans and hope they’ll be cheering us on.”

The New York City ePrix will take place in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The double-header event will see races run on Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16.
