Two New York City FC Academy players have been called up to the United States U-15 National Team squad that will compete at a tournament in Japan from June 12th-18th.
Nico Benalcazar and Gio Reyna will represent the United States as they take on Guinea, Japan, and the Netherlands in Sendai. Prior to departing for the tournament, the U-15s will take on the LA Galaxy Academy in a warm-up match later today.
NYCFC’s U-15 squad will be competing in Group F of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs, alongside FC Dallas, Columbus Crew SC Academy Wolves, and the Baltimore Armour.
The U-15/16 playoff slate kicks off with the Development Academy Summer showcase in Westfield, Indiana, featuring teams from all over the United States, between June 20th-26th.
Knockout rounds will begin July 6th for the U-15/16 age group, concluding with the final to be played on July 14th. NYCFC could very well be in the hunt for more silverware at this tournament, following a very successful Generation Adidas Cup campaign ended with the U-15 academy squad lifting the trophy after a victory over Mexico’s Tigres.
The playoffs will feature 32 teams in the U-15/16 age group and 32 more in the U-17/18 age group.
Also featuring this summer will be the NYCFC Academy U-14 squad, who will be competing in the Development Academy Summer Showcase portion of the tournament from June 19th-23rd.
Finally, a NYCFC U-12 squad will take on international powerhouses Barcelona, Benfica, and Villarreal when they partake in the La Liga Promises tournament in Newark, New Jersey from June 23rd-25th.
