We were warned by Tim Vickery that Jesus Medina had a “subtle yet booming left-foot” upon his Young-DP signing from Club Libertad – the first global transfer of 2018, and while it’s been consistently on display at the training ground, the blue faithful received a first taste of it in all-important fashion vs. Montreal Impact on Wednesday night.
The wait, and the weight of it all, was apparent to anyone who watched Jesus shake it off after his goal celebration, seemingly ridding himself of the pressure that had accumulated over time. A big goal, for player and club. It was his third on the season so far, and he also racked up his fourth assist.
After the match Jesus reflected on the strike: “It was a beautiful goal because of how it happened, we were 0-0 in a tight match. I got the ball from Anton, then I played a wall pass with Maxi. I dribbled and dribbled until I found the space and scored a goal that I’d been waiting for a long time. Today finally I got it and it was very important to open up the game and score more goals.”
He continued: “Good, I feel good. I think today I was able to take some pressure off myself by finding a goal and I feel comfortable and good with the coaching staff and the group. I think we have a good group that works together to also help each other individually.”
With the summer fixtures piling up – the opportunities should be plentiful for young Jesus, starting with our third match of the week on Saturday vs. Columbus Crew SC back at Yankee Stadium.
Can’t wait to see the next one soon…
