2017’s final Hudson River Derby came and went with NYCFC undefeated through the Regular Season series.
A 2-0-1 record is the team’s best through three seasons of play and was secured courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena on Friday night.
It was very nearly a series sweep as the Boys in Blue led for 15 second half minutes, thanks to Maxi Moralez and his 56th minute goal.
It was Maxi’s fourth goal for the club since signing from Club Leon in the offseason, adding to the seven assists he’s made throughout his debut campaign.
Moralez was his usual ball-hungry self on Friday night, flitting in between the lines of midfield and attack, knitting together moves for the away team in Harrison.

David Villa’s cute assist was delightful but Maxi still had plenty of work to do in order to score the night’s opening goal.
The Argentine’s first touch was perfect, giving him space to wrap his left foot around the volley and into the bottom corner of Luis Robles’ net.
It wasn’t enough for a fourth win in a row but it did clinch a vital point in the MLS Playoffs race.
