Wingate

NYCFC made two acquisitions in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft.

Using the tenth pick acquired in a trade with Seattle in February, Chris Wingate was selected in the third round of the draft, while Michael Degraffenriedt was chosen as the 16th.

The Norwegian-born Wingate comes in from the University of New Hampshire.

A midfielder, Wingate played 19 games for the UNH Wildcats in 2016, netting four goals and completing eight assists.

During the summer, Wingate was part of Seattle Sounders’ u23 team.

In 2015, Wingate was named the America East Midfielder of the Year, an All-Conference First Team selection and to the NSCAA All-East Region First Team after he scored six goals and racked up four assists.

Degraffenriedt spent his collegiate career with Louisville Cardinals where he started 76 games in defense over his four years there, helping the team to ten shutouts in 18 starts in his final season.

Originally from Baltimore, MD, Degraffenriedt started 19 matches in 2015 and 22 matches in 2014 – he began his Louisville career by earning Second Team All-American Athletic Conference honors and was named to the league's All-Rookie Team in 2013.

Both players join fellow SuperDraft picks Jonathan Lewis, Kwame Awuah and Jalen Brown at the club and will attend the team’s preseason training camp which kicks off on Monday Jan.23.
