Thanksgiving: NYCFC Nation Supports City in the Community

Thanksgiving 2018

This Thanksgiving, New York City FC wishes to express gratitude to NYCFC Nation for their support for City in the Community, the charity foundation proudly supported by the Club, throughout 2018.

NYCFC Nation is a leading source of club news and views and has been one of the leading fan-produced podcasts since the first days of NYCFC.

In 2018, Andrès Emilo Soto and the rest of the team behind NYCFC Nation, produced a new scarf which was made available for supporters to buy, with all proceeds going to City in the Community.

On one side of the scarf you’ll find the iconic subway tile mural introduced in 2016 and on the opposite side of the scarf, there’s a silhouette of each of the five boroughs which make up New York City.

It’s proven to be a hit with NYCFC Nation followers, with $1,000 raised to help support the programs and initiatives delivered by City in the Community across underserved communities in the five boroughs every day.

Andres told NYCFC.com: “In a media world driven by views, hits, clickbaits, “buy this” mentality, I wanted to show NYCFC FO that we’re not like the rest.

“Aside from being the #1 independent source for everything NYCFC, I always look for ways to separate ourselves from the rest of media.

“We’re not only fans who love and sometimes hate (tough love) NYCFC. We’re fans who above all love to support they city they are part of. A city we live in.

“Now with this scarf, our fanbase really stepped up and gave us so much support through advertising the scarves and of course purchasing them.

Soto continued: “It really felt like an NYCFC Nation. What’s not to love? We’re giving back to an organization that’s in alignment with NYCFC and in exchange you are getting an awesomely designed scarf!”

In addition to this initiative, NYCFC Nation have supported NYCFC affiliate South Bronx United in past years and earlier in 2018, they sponsored a supporters’ bus for the New England Revolution home match, proving beyond doubt that NYCFC Nation is #ForTheCity.

Each scarf is $40 and 100% of proceeds go to City in the Community.

For Thanksgiving 2018, 25 NYCFC staff members volunteered at the Mid Bronx Senior Center to help serve Thanksgiving dinner to residents from housing developments in the area.

The Mid Bronx Senior Center sponsors a comprehensive range of services provided for, and largely by, members of the South Bronx Community.

From human services to housing development programs and activities, the Mid Bronx Senior Center seeks to accomplish the following goals;

  • To enhance the quality of life for residents of the South Bronx.
  • To ensure that they are afforded the opportunity for economical and social well-being that will enable them to remain in the community and live with dignity of and surroundings.
  • To encourage them to become vocal, active, and positive contributors to and forces in their community

Happy Thanksgiving to all our supporters from everyone at New York City FC.
