New York City Football Club host Charlotte FC on Wednesday night at Citi Field.
For this edition of 'The Away End' presented by Berkeley College & Rennert International, we spoke to Jorge Gonzales, CEO of Top Bin 90.
Hi Jorge, thanks for speaking with us. How long have you been covering Charlotte FC?
I have been covering Charlotte FC since its beginnings when it was announced back in December 2019.
What has been your highlight in that time?
My highlight has been the community that has been built through soccer by having an MLS team now in the Carolinas.
What are your hopes for the 2023 season?
My hope is that Charlotte FC make playoffs this season and have a decent run. With an average attendance of over 30,000 and an electric atmosphere, this fanbase deserves to see at least one playoff game.
What do you think will be the deciding factor in Wednesday’s game?
The key will be in Charlotte staying compact in the backline and making sure there isn't a lack of concentration during the 90. Charlotte is the MLS side with the most goals against this season so it’s going to be important to keep it tight in the back. I can see this team creating scoring opportunities but conceding is what truly worries me.
And for any fans that might be in Charlotte for a game are there any spots you'd suggest they check out?
Graham St Pub in uptown Charlotte is a great place to catch Charlotte FC matches. It’s near the stadium and there’s always a fun atmosphere!
