New York City FC are on the road this weekend as they take on New England Revolution
For this edition of 'The Away End' presented by Berkeley College & Rennert International, we spoke to Shannon Tate, Home Events co-chair for Revs supporters group, NE Rebellion.
Hi Shannon, thanks so much for speaking with us. How long have you been a New England Revs fan?
Hi! Thanks for inviting me to chat with you guys! I have been a New England Revolution fan for 10 years!
What’s been your favorite moment following or covering the team?
So far my favorite moment is probably when Bruce Arena was announced to join the team as Coach. To have someone of his past coaching record come into the Revolution fold has been exciting and brought us hope. He knows how to build a strong, driven team culture which is exactly what this team is capable of, and has shown up time and time again this season. I think it is safe for me to say, on behalf of the fans, we are very lucky to have Bruce.
Looking at the 2021 season, the Revs are enjoying a fantastic campaign. What do you put that down to?
Morale this year has been at a new level we as fans have been waiting for. The team has a leader that pushes, inspires, and drives our guys. In turn, they push each other and have a ball doing so! It is infectious and I look forward to it continuing this season and into the future.
The last time the two sides met, NYCFC emerged 2-0 winners. What did you take away from that game?
We knew it would be a tough match, NYCFC have a very strong home record this season. It came as no surprise when they verified that with their performance. Castellanos showed us how dangerous of an attacking player he can be, certainly a player to keep a sharp eye out on. Looking forward to seeing the rematch for both teams this weekend.
From a tactical standpoint, what strengths should Ronny Deila and his team be wary of heading into the game?
AHA! I see what you did there, I read your interview with Charlie Davies, sooo I can't give away any secrets!
Are there any areas where you think the Revs can improve?
Our back line could use more strength, and that's not a dig at anyone. It is more to say that it is the one area we could use more depth and focus on. Our GA record compared to other teams proves this. It would be higher without keepers like Turner and Brad.
If you were to identify New England’s danger-man, who would that be?
Carles Gil. Do not get me wrong, our team is strong in several areas but the fire has been lit under Gil. After returning from a long spell on the sidelines, that man is ready to make moves and drive the team during the rest of this season. His ability level speaks for itself on and off the pitch. Amongst many fans, Carles Gil is one of the most creative players to enter MLS. To say he's one of our own, I can not wait to see what the future holds with him on this team.
And finally, for any fans thinking of making the trip to the Boston or Foxborough area in the future, are there any particular attractions you’d suggest checking out?
If anyone ever finds themselves visiting us, be prepared for some amazing food in Boston/Foxborough! In Boston, I have to suggest the Lawn on D. It's a beautiful, family-friendly outdoor space located in the Seaport District of Boston. There are cool swings, picnic tables, lawn games, and live entertainment from local bands and artists to enjoy! For some indoor fun, I highly recommend the Boston Museum of Science. There are so many great exhibitions, movies, interactive areas, and a rotating special exhibit every couple of months. As for fans traveling only to Foxboro, Patriot place is really nice before and after the game. For those that want to tailgate with us, we welcome all to lot 4C three hours prior to kick.
