New York City Football Cub are seeking home comforts this weekend as they take on Real Salt Lake at Yankee Stadium.
For this edition of 'The Away End' presented by Berkeley College & Rennert International, we spoke to RSL mascot Leonardo 'Leo' the Lion.
What's the best thing about being RSL's mascot?
The best thing about being RSL’s Mascot – seeing the smiling faces of our supporters, especially the kids as they enter the stadium and see the team play.
You joined the club in 2010, what's been your favorite moment with RSL?
I joined RSL in 2010 but I’ve been around since the beginning of the team, so my favorite moment was lifting the MLS Cup in 2009.
Do you have a favorite RSL player?
Kyle Beckerman since he decided to copy my hairstyle.
Are you friends with any of the other MLS mascots?
FC Cincinnati’s Gary the Lion and Orlando City’s Kingston are welcome in my pride anytime.
What are you most excited about as we continue through the 2022 season?
Having full stadiums again and seeing the guys compete for a cup.
If you were ever called upon to play for the team do you have a preferred position on the field?
Goalkeeper.
If any of our fans are in Salt Lake for a game are there any spots you'd suggest they check out?
I’d say places to Check Out; Park Café, my friends in the Lions' Cage at Hogle Zoo, and any of our world-class ski resorts or hiking trails.
