Happy New Year from NYCFC!
Our players are still in rest and recovery mode following the 2016 campaign but there’s still some great content out there online…
We start with a post from one of our very own…
Pirlo’s Fireball
This post from Andrea Pirlo blew up on social media over the New Year holiday and it’s easy to see why.
The kind of artistry one might expect from the man named Il Maestro.
He was robbed at the MLS Soshies! Robbed, I tells ya…
Giroud ‘Camel Kick’
Unless you spent New Year on the moon, you’ll have seen Olivier Giroud’s outrageous volley in Arsenal’s win over Crystal Palace.
One Reddit user (possibly with too much time on his hands) has put together a compilation of how the goal was reported all over the world.
Goal of the Month
Staying in England, there’s a heartwarming story starring terminally ill five-year-old Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery.
The youngster has won the BBC Match of the Day goal of the month competition for a penalty scored in the warm-ups before Sunderland’s game against Chelsea.
Lowery has been battling neuroblastoma since 2013 and won December’s award after sending Chelsea ‘keeper Asmir Begovic the wrong way from the spot.
Ronaldo Owns Kroos
They don’t call him the Phenomenon for nothin’!
Toni Kroos upset an entire nation with this New Year’s post, rubbing salt in Brazilian wounds by referring back to the World Cup semi-final of 2016…
Only for Ronaldo to fire back with this burn… reminding Toni that Brazil beat Germany in the 2002 World Cup final.
Ronaldo undoubtedly wins that round.
MLS Digital Boom
Finally, there’s an interesting listen for lovers of sport and digital over on DigitalSport.co where MLS Senior Vice President Chris Schlosser reveals the stat that since 2013, MLS social accounts have been the fastest growing in US sports, up almost 700% in three years.
