It’s Taty Time in Argentina.
New York City FC striker Valentin Castellanos has been called into the U-23 La Albiceleste for the first time after a tremendous regular season in MLS, where he has scored 11 goals and recorded 5 assists through 29 games played.
Taty, who turns 21 on Thursday, will join up with fellow MLS player, D.C. United’s Lucas Rodriguez, at the Argentina U-23 camp as they prepare to play two friendlies against Mexico on October 9 and October 14.
The young striker joined NYCFC on loan from CA Torque midway through the 2018 season, but in this, his first full season in the city, the player Heber affectionately refers to as El Animalito has been immense, and it’s clear to see he’s settled into his new home.
His eleven goals don’t begin to cover the impact that the tireless striker has had in a new look City attack that has produced three double digit goal scorers and the MLS leader in assists in Taty’s Argentinian compatriot Maxi Moralez.
He’s also a new record holder for the fastest goal scored in club history, besting Frank Lampard’s record of 48 seconds vs. D.C. United in 2015 with his own efficient goal vs. FC Dallas earlier this month. Taty needed only 39 seconds…
Castellanos will depart the New York City FC camp after this weekend’s regular season finale at Philadelphia Union.
Everybody at the club would like to congratulate Valentin on this latest step, and we look forward to welcoming him back for playoff time in New York.
