It was a waterlogged day that featured a deluge of action at Yankee Stadium, but NYCFC head coach Patrick Vieira was positively sunny about his team's performance.
"I was worried on the bench, to be honest," Vieira told reporters, "But the more the game was going the more comfortable I was. You could see the way the game was going, the way we passed the ball around, we were making the right decisions.
"We played really well and I really enjoyed watching the team play today."
Taking center stage in that impressive performance was David Villa, who banged home his 50th MLS goal for NYCFC from the penalty spot. Before the game was over, David would add goal number 51 to seal the win for the boys in blue.
"To be honest I'm not surprised," Vieira said, "Because you have to look at David's career and what he has achieved. It is not easy to be the top goalscorer in Spain's history, it's not easy to win the Champions League and the World Cup.
"That talent is always going to be there."
David Villa wasn't the only example of the talent at Vieira's disposal today, either. Jack Harrison's dogged work in the box allowed him to serve in the cross that Villa volleyed home for his second goal of the day. While Vieira noted that Jack still has a ways to go, he praised the continued development of the young star.
Vieira elaborated: "He needs to improve on decision making when he's around the box, but he's still young, he's still developing.
"He's a much better player than he was last year and he will be a much better player next year."
